When Elena and I started planning our next trip, all we knew was it was not going to be our usual summer retreat to Europe. While we relax and have fun there, we’d been several times and it was an adventure that we yearned for. After a whole lot of research, we picked California for its beautiful sandy beaches and sunshine all through the year.
The pictures of California holidays with stunning waterfalls, peaceful sandy beaches, beautiful landscapes, fascinating cities and towering mountains made our hearts flutter. Of course, a visit to Universal Studio and the Disneyland were on top our lists too. Without any delay, we booked an escorted tour to California which entailed visit to Cambria, San Francisco, Long Beach and Palm springs.
Our California holidays started with a two days stay in San Francisco. Initially, the fog almost dampened our spirits, but the whole lot of things that the place had to explore got us up and going. The Aquarium of the Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, The Fisherman’s Wharf and the other famous landmarks were perfect to spend the days. A ride by the cable car was exhilarating too. We ended our days with a leisurely walk around the Presidio before heading to some great bars to let our hair down and unwind.
Our next stop was the seaside town Cambria, which is located between LA and San Francisco. The city is marked by year-round events and festivals while the many historic buildings and enchanting stores are a traveller’s delight. We bought many art and antique pieces from the city and enjoyed our walks along the Moonstone beach spotting grey whales, sea otters and seals as we went along.
The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, our next destination, has lots of interesting and distinctive exhibits too. The nightlife being the centre of attraction in this place didn’t disappoint us a bit. Palm Springs, rightly known as the ‘Playground of the Stars’, stupefied us with its modern décor and architecture. The Palm Springs Tramway was a pleasant ride, while our visit to one of the upscale Indian Casinos was another highlight of our stay there. With that, it was time for us to return home, though we both shared the feeling that we should have planned a few more days in California.
For California holidays I would recommend an escorted tour – it worked perfectly for us as we didn’t want to miss out on any single pleasure in this huge state. Truly exotic with just the right mix of adventure, this was one vacation we will remember for a long time and wouldn’t mind reliving it again in future.
